My daughter is just over six months old and I think I’m ready to put some of my thoughts into words. Thoughts on the last six months. Thoughts on the nine months before that. Thoughts on who I am and who I am becoming.
When we announced that we were pregnant, a friend of ours sent her congratulations and wished me well on my journey of matrescence.
Matrescence? Ooo new word. *googles matrescence*
Matrescence: the process of becoming a mother.
Cambridge Dictionary
Those physical, psychological and emotional changes you go through after the birth of your child.
Like adolescence but with a baby?… Maybe not quite.
The past six months have been an onslaught of changes to nearly every facet of my life. There have been changes that I expected and many that I did not. Some I’ve only read about, while others I never knew existed until they happened and I found their names at the bottom of several internet rabbit holes.
I am a new mum and life-long learner.
Welcome to my matrescence.
